What is Spiritual Direction?

Spiritual direction is usually a one-on-one relationship between two people, where one person discusses their walk with God, and the other, through prayer and conversation, seeks to deepen that person’s intimacy with God.

As an illustration, a spiritual director is like one who looks at another’s map, and through God's guidance, helps the other avoid dead ends and watch out for potholes, while all together pointing them on a way to draw closer to God.

“A spiritual director is not a counselor, a therapist or an analyst, but a mature fellow Christian to whom we choose to be accountable for living our spiritual life and from whom we can expect prayerful support in our constant struggle to discern God’s activity.”

Missionaries
Having personally served on the mission field, I have a deep desire to support and encourage fellow missionaries—whether overseas or back in the U.S.—for sabbatical, home assignment, health reasons, etc. Wherever you are globally, many of us rely on the faithful support of others as we follow God’s call. My desire is to come alongside these servants with encouragement, understanding, and practical help.

Disabilities

I personally experienced a traumatic brain injury in 2007, so I understand what it’s like to face setbacks, obstacles, and unexpected roadblocks in life. And yet, through it all, God has walked with me every step of the way, shining His light in ways I never could have imagined—even when I wouldn’t have asked for it. While my challenges may be different from yours, I know we serve the same faithful God who is present with each of us, no matter what we’re going through.
